[sticky entry] Sticky: Introductions

I go by Lockie and I'm 23. I'm of Norwegian & Irish descent, born in Scotland and now living in England. I am female, a tomboy who loves pretty things, and queer. My pronouns are she/her, or they/them. I have ADPKD which I probably won't talk about that much. I'm politically centre-left. I'm an ESFJ, a Libra and a Hufflepuff. I swear a lot and 'fuck' is probably my favourite word - I dont think there's any word in the English language that can express so many different ideas and feelings

I am a geography nerd, have a BSC in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning and work as a Transport Operations Planner for a logistics company. I'm saving up to study an Urban and Regional Planning MSc. Did I mention being a nerd for geography and urban planning?
(I mean, just look at my interests, right?)

I have a coffee addiction, especially Starbucks Caramel Macchiato. And let me tell you - you haven't lived if you've never had a Caramel Irish Coffee. Short-term caffeine and sugar fixes for the fucking win!

I love socialising, playing tennis and football, cycling, dancing, swimming, yoga, taking long showers, parties, listening to music, striking up conversations with random people, playing board games, rearranging the furniture in my flat, kinky sex & role play, putting on super soft comfy pjs and hiding under a fluffy blanket with a book.

My current fandoms are Gentleman Jack, Good Omens, Carnival Row, MCU, War Of The Worlds, His Dark Materials, and anything with Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, Chris Evans or Mark Ruffalo. I grew up on Star Trek. I have major crush on Cara Delevingne. I'm a sucker for a period drama. My favourite books are Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice & Matilda. I fucking love Jane Austen and books are my best friends!

Music wise I love Adele, Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, One Direction (Harry Styles!), James Arthur, Rihanna, Demi Lovato... and a bizarre interest in opera!

I'm happy to believe in fairies, elves, and trolls, and I'll dig holes, climb trees, and look under bridges to find these creatures. Mythology, fairy tales and urban legends give me a hard-on.

I also get super excited about climate change, sustainability, conservation, skincare, positivity, kindness, and doodle almost constantly. I'm fascinated by divination and tarot. I keep meaning to try bullet journalling and jewllery making. I would love to grow my own fruits & vegetables. And I love love!

Home Sweet Home

It's strange how somewhere that's always felt like home can one day... not feel like home anymore. I've been up at my parents house in North Lanarkshire for most of the week, it's my childhood home, it's where I grew up. But this time I haven't felt like coming home. Instead, I feel very much like I'm visiting my parents house. It is the strangest feeling though, and I'm not sure I particularly like it.

I bought my own flat this summer, and its the first time I've been back here since and that's likely why. I'm feeling the strangest urge to pack up and go home, back to MY home. My little flat in Birmingham.

Despite that, it's been a nice break. I had some lovely Christmas presents - Hufflepuff Quidditch team hoodie, framed map of Jane Austen novels print, a Jane Austen books mug & coaster, and some books from my Amazon wishlist (The Atlas of Unusual Borders, Prisoners of Geography: Our World Explained in 12 Simple Maps and The Phantom Atlas: The Greatest Myths, Lies and Blunders on Maps).

It's also been wonderful seeing my little brother Niall again. Although he's not so little anymore! He's grown into an actual young man in the last few months, and as long as he gets his expected grades in his exams, he's off to university in September to study Religion, Culture and Society - and he's super excited that some of his modules involve cults. As long as I an remember Niall has been obsessed with cults and cult leaders. I'm not entirely sure he doesn't want to just learn how to lead his own cult!

I head home again on Monday, long train journey - an hour from here to Edinburgh, then just over 4 hours from Edinburgh to Birmingham. I'm not looking forward to that but I've got music, my tablet and a book so I'm set. Then back into work on Thursday 2nd. Mostly, I'm thinking about New Year's Resolutions

Words have meaning and names have power

One question I tend to get asked when meeting new people is about my name. I know it's unusual and it seems like a good springboard for a post, right?

Lockie is a diminutive of my given name. My name is Lachlan, which just makes things even more confusing. It's traditionally a male name, but it originates from a Scottish slang word for a person from Norway - the land of the lochs. And my dad is from Norway, which is why I've got the name. But people always pronounce it wrong. It's 'loch-lan', like Loch Ness but so many people pronounce it 'lack-lan' and trust me, there's nothing lacking here!

Of course, everyone then pronounces Lockie differently. My mum (Irish) calls me 'Lawk-ee', some of my friends call me 'Loki' which is cool. But really, it's Lockie, like 'lock key' basically.

Then we have the name of the blog which... those are two of my middles names. Yes, 'Vulcan' is one of my middle names. If dad could have got away with it, it'd probably be Spock. I'm almost surprised I'm not called James Tiberius Kirk!
