One question I tend to get asked when meeting new people is about my name. I know it's unusual and it seems like a good springboard for a post, right?

Lockie is a diminutive of my given name. My name is Lachlan, which just makes things even more confusing. It's traditionally a male name, but it originates from a Scottish slang word for a person from Norway - the land of the lochs. And my dad is from Norway, which is why I've got the name. But people always pronounce it wrong. It's 'loch-lan', like Loch Ness but so many people pronounce it 'lack-lan' and trust me, there's nothing lacking here!

Of course, everyone then pronounces Lockie differently. My mum (Irish) calls me 'Lawk-ee', some of my friends call me 'Loki' which is cool. But really, it's Lockie, like 'lock key' basically.

Then we have the name of the blog which... those are two of my middles names. Yes, 'Vulcan' is one of my middle names. If dad could have got away with it, it'd probably be Spock. I'm almost surprised I'm not called James Tiberius Kirk!

OK, "Lacklan" is a pretty odd pronunciation. I can only assume that said speakers are unfamiliar with Scottish pronunciation.

They probably think that "Aye, right!" is an enthusiastic agreement.

They're all Lock-lans around here - we never pronounce it Lack-lan. (They're all Lockies here, to be honest, given our propensity for nicknames in this country.)

Wait, your middle name is Vulcan?? Your parents sound so cool!!

I wondered if it was short for Turlough, which shares the same nickname.
